Ceeje Gallery

Founded by Cecil Hedrick and Jerry Jerome in 1961, Ceeje Gallery specialized in the work of figurative painters. The expressionist, dramatic, and idiosyncratic style of its artists placed them wholly apart from the abstract, streamlined look that characterized much of the art being made in Los Angeles in the 1960s. The diverse group of L.A.–based artists, most of whom studied at the University of California, Los Angeles, included Charles Garabedian, Lance Richbourg, Eduardo Carillo, and Joan Maffei, as well as the photographer Edmund Teske. The gallery closed in 1970.
