The Los Angeles Institute of Contemporary Art (1977–87)

In 1977, The Los Angeles Institute of Contemporary Art (LAICA) moved from its original space in the Century City complex to a larger building at this location. It continued to operate as a space dedicated to contemporary art with extensive exhibitions and public programs that had an international scope. Exhibitions during these years included Foundations in Clay (1977) featuring the work of Peter Voulkos, John Mason, and Ken Price; a west coast presentation of the groundbreaking exhibition Pictures (1978–79); and solo shows by Suzanne Lacy, Peter Alexander, Llyn Foulkes, and Eleanor Antin. LAICA ceased operation in 1987 due to financial hardships.
