Syndell Studio was a space established in 1954 in a low-rent area of Los Angeles’s Brentwood neighborhood. Walter Hopps founded the space, along with Jim Newman, Craig Kauffman, Michael Scoles, and Ben and Betty Bartosh. Their aim was to feature the work of Californian avant-garde artists.
