Visitors attending the opening for Chris Burden’s November 1972 show at the Mizuno Gallery were greeted by what appeared to be an accident scene, with a covered cadaver lying on La Cienega Boulevard. It was in fact the artist himself, performing his piece Dead Man. When the police arrived on the scene and interrogated Burden, he declared that he was making a piece of sculpture, and was arrested for causing a false emergency. Burden continued to work with Mizuno through the mid-1970s.
