Cinema Theatre

In 1963 this spacious theatre became home to “Movies ‘Round Midnight,” Los Angeles’s inaugural foray into the world of underground cinema. The series was a collaboration between young manager Michael Getz and programmer John Fles and combined independent and experimental cinema with Hollywood fare, international works, and serials to re-imagine film genre and exhibition practices. The screenings attracted enormous crowds and inspired a generation of curators and artists, assuring Movies ‘Round Midnight’s legacy as one of Los Angeles’s most exciting and influential nights at the cinema.
