In 1959 Virginia Dwan opened a gallery in the Westwood neighborhood of Los Angeles. Dwan showed work by New York artists Franz Kline, Philip Guston, Claes Oldenburg, Robert Rauschenberg, and Larry Rivers, as well as French artists Yves Klein, Arman, Martial Raysse, Jean Tinguely, and Niki de Saint Phalle.
