The home of artist Walter Berman and his wife Shirley on Crater Lane was a meeting place for artists, poets, and musicians of the Beat generation. It is also where Berman made his early assemblages, which were shown in his infamous Ferus Gallery exhibition in 1957, which was shut down by the LAPD vice squad.
