Zeitlin and Ver Brugge, or The Red Barn
Jake Zeitlin was a renowned rare book dealer in Los Angeles since the late 1920s who also exhibited art in his shops. In 1948, he opened Zeitlin & Ver Brugge, referred to by customers as “The Red Barn” because of the barn-like structure that housed the shop. Like Zeitlin’s other spaces, it was a major Los Angeles venue for rare books, but also for art. Over the years he exhibited modernist prints, photographs, and drawings, including those of Edward Weston, Käthe Kollwitz, Arthur Millier, Henrietta Mary Shore, and José Clemente Orozco.
