G. Ray Hawkins Gallery

In 1975, G. Ray Hawkins, influenced by regular visits to the rare-book store Zeitlin & Ver Brugge, opened one of the first fine art photography galleries in Los Angeles. After an inaugural exhibition of Man Ray’s work, the gallery continued to show other modernist photographers, such as Margaret Bourke-White, Paul Outerbridge and Ansel Adams, as well as Los Angeles-based photographer Max Yavno. In 1980, Hawkins moved the gallery to a larger space on East Melrose.
