Stephen White Gallery

Originally named the Photo Album Gallery, the Stephen White Gallery opened in 1975. At the time only one other photo gallery existed in Los Angeles, the G. Ray Hawkins Gallery, which had opened earlier that same year. White introduced Los Angeles to a wide variety of photographic work, from 19th-century daguerreotypes to photographs by contemporary artists such as Adam Bartos and Michael Kenna. The gallery was among the first to introduce theme shows, including The West before Weston and California Contemporaries.
