I am a teacher, cookbook author, culinary historian, and food columnist recently elected to the James Beard Cookbook Hall of Fame. I am also a chevalier of the French Légion d'Honneur; among my 30+ books are the influential La Varenne Pratique and The Cookbook Library. I am also a historian and collector of historical cookbooks and prints, several of which can be seen in the Getty Research Institute exhibition The Edible Monument.
