I am an Egyptologist for the British Academy at the University of Oxford, assistant field-director of Oxford University’s Expedition to Elkab (an ancient site in southern Egypt), and a trustee of the Egypt Exploration Society in London. I was trained in Italy and Great Britain, in both Classics and Egyptology. I have previously held academic positions in England, Germany, and Denmark, and participated in archaeological fieldwork in both Egypt and Sudan. My research focuses primarily on the investigation of ancient Egyptian texts and language, with special attention to the later phases of ancient Egypt’s history and the multilingual and multicultural environment that characterised Graeco-Roman Egypt. I assisted the curators of the exhibition Beyond the Nile: Egypt and the Classical World in the study of papyri and inscriptions from the Ptolemaic and Roman periods, especially with regard to the conservation of the Benevento obelisk.
