I'm professor of anthropology at the University of Chicago in Illinois. For over 30 years my archaeological research has focused on colonial encounters between the ancient Gauls of France and alien Etruscan, Greek, and Roman traders and colonists, in particular on the ancient wine trade and the cross-cultural analysis of alcohol, foodways, and feasting.
