A Leopard Man
my name is: David Spiher
i'm sharing: "He saw what I saw." I walked the collection July 9th. The Mapplethorpe nude was a "madeleine" of a painting/dream I had in 1980 of a leopard man that I later associated with Kaposi's Sarcoma. My head is now on the nude. My husband, Ralph, is the other figure. Ralph has an advanced AIDS-related dementia.
this was inspired by: Vittore Carpaccio, the verso of the Lagoon Hunting painting [Letter Rack], early Italian trompe l'oeil, and a Mapplethorpe nude in the current exhibitions.
to me, inspiration is: I'm always looking for the way, the means to go forward, for freshness.
