I am a doctoral student studying early modern European history at Stanford University. Specializing in Renaissance Italy and Spain, my dissertation will consider the science of aristocratic animal breeding and its impact on theories of race. Next Spring, Stanford’s Green Library will host my exhibit “Beasts in Books” which will trace the role of animals in book culture through rare books and archival documents.
