View of J.M.W. Turner exhibition

Installation view of J.M.W. Turner: Painting Set Free at the Getty Center

Your response to the exhibition of British painter J.M.W. Turner has been overwhelming. Visitors have been telling us they found it “gorgeous and emotional,” “beautiful,” “inspiring,” and that it’s their “all-time favorite exhibition at the Getty Center.”

We heard you! To give as many people as possible a chance to see the show, we’re keeping the exhibition open till 9 pm on closing day, Sunday, May 24. You’ll want at least an hour to browse the five large galleries packed with 60 oil paintings and watercolors representing Turner’s creative late years. To minimize non-Turner-related distractions, none of the other Getty galleries will be open from 5:30 to close—for three and a half hours, we will be 100% J.M.W.

The gift shop and one of our coffee carts will also remain open, to properly caffeinate your sunset adventure. Arrive after 5 pm, and parking is reduced to $10 per car. The entire Getty Center is also open till 9 pm on Saturday, May 23, as part of our normal late-Saturday hours.

After the Turners leave L.A., they fly north to S.F., where they go on view for three months at the deYoung, June 20 to September 20.
